Last year Art for AIDS raised more than $338,000. Proceeds support our HIV-related work to both reduce the spread of HIV disease and help people living with HIV—
- HIV counseling and testing
- Peer and professional support groups
- Provider training and publications
AHP has been at the forefront of HIV care and prevention since 1984, when we began working with patients and providers at San Francisco General Hospital to help them cope with the emotional and mental health impact of the AIDS crisis.
We joined with other groups to develop what became the internationally renowned San Francisco Model of Care. AHP has pioneered dozens of programs, including HIV counseling and testing, HIV test counselor training and certification, and programs that ensure the health and well-being of men who have sex with men, women, and drug users with HIV. We continue to develop new approaches and innovate established interventions. Over the past few years, we have brought this same innovation to working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) clients, and we are now San Francisco’s primary city-funded mental health clinic for the LGBTQ community.
